Across the Pond: A Day in the United Kingdom Pavilion at EPCOT

In March, our EPCOT Excursions took the Adventurers Club on a charming journey "across the pond" to the United Kingdom Pavilion, where cobblestone streets, thatched roofs, and Tudor façades transported us into a world rich with history, literature, and garden adventures.
Our day began with a classic photo op in the iconic red phone booths before diving into our Architectural Tour, exploring time periods from the Tudor Era (Hampton Court Palace, c.1500) to the 1600s Thatched Cottage inspired by Anne Hathaway’s home, the Georgian Era elegance of The Queen’s Table, and the modern row houses that line the Pavilion's far side—bringing the architectural evolution of the UK to life.
Next, we launched into a Puzzle Hunt in the English Tea Garden, winding through fragrant paths and uncovering clues among teacups, herbs, and roses. Families also enjoyed a Scavenger Hunt, on the lookout for distinct UK items like cricket bats, teacups, and Mary Poppins memorabilia.
Our KIDCOT stop was extra special this time—we had the opportunity to interview not one but two lovely Cast Members from the UK. Their warmth and stories added authentic voices to our learning journey and sparked curiosity and great questions from our students.
We hosted a mini botanical illustrations gallery, featuring art inspired by Beatrice Potter and the surrounding gardens, and then gathered for some English Literature Readers Theater performances. Though the lively Command Performance band added unexpected ambiance (read: volume!), we embraced the moment and moved our theater to a quieter spot for a lovely wrap-up and reflection.
We encourage you to check out our student-created podcast (RADcast) on the UK Pavilion—it’s packed with history, culture, and curiosity, straight from our RAD kids.
Next stop? Canada in April—we’re ready to head north and explore another corner of the world. Until then, cheers from Radiant!
✨ UK Extension: A Knight to Remember at Medieval Times
To bring our UK studies and novel explorations to life, we embarked on an unforgettable extension trip to Medieval Times, where history met spectacle in the most theatrical of ways. As part of our literature study of Redwall and The Tale of Despereaux—two stories rich in chivalry, courage, and medieval flair—we stepped into a castle and were transported back to the days of knights, falconers, and feasts.
We cheered with full hearts for the Red Knight, proudly cheering and standing with honor—even though he didn’t win the tournament, our section was ultimately on the side of good, which made the night a triumph in our eyes.
Students were captivated by the grace of falconry, the thrilling jousting battles, and the live swordplay. We feasted on soup, potatoes, and corn—eating with our hands, of course!—just as nobles and squires might have done in the age of castles and kings.
The experience deepened our understanding of the feudal system, the code of chivalry, and the cultural values that defined the Middle Ages. For many students, this immersive event helped bridge the gap between fiction and history in a way that books alone couldn’t.
Want to Join the Fun? Our EPCOT Excursions offer families a chance to explore the world in a hands-on, engaging way. If you love adventure, cultural discovery, and immersive learning, be sure to follow along and sign up for future trips. We’d love to have you join us!
