Our February EPCOT Excursion transported us to the heart of China, where families gathered at the entrance of the China Pavilion, ready to embark on an immersive journey through history, art, and tradition.
We began our adventure with Reflections of China, a breathtaking 360-degree Circle Vision film that whisked us across the country’s diverse landscapes. From the winding Great Wall to the misty Yangtze River and the dazzling skylines of Shanghai and Hong Kong, the film offered a stunning introduction to the beauty and grandeur of China.
Next, we embarked on an architectural walking tour, keeping an eye out for the hidden figure of Prince Min riding with his hen on the Street of Good Fortune—a fun detail that delighted our keen observers! Along the way, we marveled at the Pavilion’s famous rock formations, appreciating their strange and unusual shapes, which hold deep symbolic meaning in Chinese culture.
To make our day even more magical, Mulan herself made a surprise appearance on the Street of Good Fortune! She stopped by to admire the kids’ sketches and workbooks, offering words of encouragement and appreciation for their efforts. It was a truly special moment that capped off an already unforgettable experience.
Our journey continued as we passed through the magnificent Gates of the Golden Sun, leading us to one of the highlights of our visit—sketching the iconic Temple of Heaven.
Once inside, we were amazed by the perfect acoustics, playfully testing them out by speaking to each other from across the temple. The children had a blast experimenting with the way sound carried effortlessly within the space.
After all that exploring, we took a well-earned break for food and our family scavenger hunt. Parents and kids alike enjoyed hunting for cultural treasures hidden throughout the pavilion while savoring delicious bites inspired by authentic Chinese cuisine.
Reuniting at KIDCOT, we had the special opportunity to interview a cast member from Hong Kong, learning firsthand about life in this vibrant city. The kids asked engaging questions, deepening their understanding of modern Chinese culture.
From there, we stepped into the House of Whispering Willows Gallery, where creativity took center stage. Each child created their own traditional name stamp, also known as a chop stamp, practicing ancient Chinese calligraphy techniques. We then hosted another inspiring mini pop-up gallery, displaying our newly crafted "signatures".
The gallery was also home to an exciting exhibit featuring Shanghai Disneyland! The kids explored a collection of memorabilia and got to complete their very own ticket booklets—just like those used when Disneyland first opened. They had a blast deciding which rides and attractions they would want to experience if they ever visited.
This EPCOT Excursion to China was filled with discovery, creativity, and immersive learning, giving our families a rich appreciation for the country’s art, history, and culture. We can’t wait for our next adventure—off to the United Kingdom in March! And for an extra dose of medieval excitement, we’re making a special visit to Medieval Times for even more hands-on learning and fun.
