October was an amazing month as the Adventurers Club dove into the vibrant culture and customs of Mexico! Every Wednesday, our club gathered to learn about Mexico's history, art, traditions, and celebrations. With activities and hands-on experiences, the kids truly felt like they were stepping into a different world. Our focus on building empathy and understanding for other cultures made this a month to remember.
One of the highlights was a special visit from a parent guest speaker who shared the magic of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). She captivated us with stories about the ofrenda, explaining each part of the altar and the meanings behind the marigold flowers, candles, and photos of loved ones. The kids learned about the mariposa (butterfly) as a symbol of spirits returning, and everyone even learned a beautiful song. This moment brought so much heart to our studies, helping the kids connect deeply with the tradition and see how it honors loved ones and celebrates life.
Our Excursion to EPCOT’s Mexico Pavilion
The month wouldn’t have been complete without an immersive field trip to EPCOT’s Mexico Pavilion! We started our day meeting on the Temple Promenade for an architectural and garden tour. The kids learned about traditional Mexican designs, the significance of the pyramid, and the beautiful plants that are native to Mexico. The adventure continued with a Puzzle Hunt in the Mexican Folk Art Gallery, where they solved clues and learned even more about Día de los Muertos.
The children’s excitement grew as they took on the KIDCOT "Interview a Local" activity. A huge thank-you to Emma for her thoughtful interview! Her interview will be featured in our latest podcast episode as part of our Radiant Around the World segment on RADcast. After the interviews, we set off on a Family Scavenger Hunt around the pavilion, where kids and parents alike enjoyed spotting hidden details and little surprises.
One of the trip's highlights was listening to the live music of Mariachi Cobre. The kids were thrilled, especially Jackson, who recorded a special interview with the leader of the band! Hearing the authentic mariachi sound and understanding the instruments up close was unforgettable.
Finally, we wrapped up the day with a fun ride on the Gran Fiesta Tour boat ride, where everyone enjoyed the lighthearted journey. Afterward, we shared a delicious meal together in the pavilion, reflecting on everything we’d seen, heard, and experienced.
