From Canada to Mexico: The Monarch Migration

Our Adventurers kicked off the Ancient Amazing Race with a symbolic flight of their own! Starting in the Canada Pavilion, teams crafted monarch butterflies and “pollinated” flowers as they 'migrated south' toward Mexico — connecting science, storytelling, and movement in a fun, hands-on way.

The Ancient Timeline Challenge

Once they “landed,” students assembled a timeline puzzle of Mayan and Aztec civilizations, matching major events, achievements, and cultural milestones. This challenge encouraged critical thinking and teamwork while bringing ancient history to life.

“It felt like we traveled through time — and across Mexico — all in one morning.”— Adventurer, Age 10

Jungle or Desert? Choose Your Clue!

Next, teams chose between two paths — the Jungle Plant Fact Hunt or the Cactus Scavenger Hunt. Each route revealed fascinating facts about Mexico’s plants, from orchids, bromeliads, and cacao to towering fan palms and desert succulents. Students learned how these plants supported both ancient peoples and modern ecosystems.

Inside the Pyramid

Inside the iconic pyramid, teams completed an interview challenge with Cast Members from Mexico. Through their conversations, students gained authentic insights into modern Mexican culture — connecting ancient heritage to living traditions.

Donald’s Detour

The race included a lighthearted “fork in the road”: Take Donald Duck’s Gran Fiesta Tour boat ride or wait to snap a photo with Donald himself! Either choice offered laughter, discovery, and a touch of Disney magic.

Día de los Muertos Puzzle Hunt

In the final challenge, teams explored the Día de los Muertos displays through a themed puzzle hunt. Each clue uncovered symbols of love and remembrance — from marigolds to papel picado — until the final riddle led them to the finish line!

Crossing the Finish Line

Every team finished strong, celebrating both their problem-solving skills and their new understanding of Mexico’s rich history and culture. The Ancient Amazing Race blended learning, laughter, and cultural appreciation — a true celebration of curiosity and collaboration.
